Celebration of New Year Around World

Nitin Singh wrote:

Even before mankind knew about celebrating any other festival, New Year around the world was welcomed with much gusto and zest by people of almost every race. Right from ringing holy Church bells, to gatherings with family and friends, to watching parades sitting at home amongst all luxuries at television channels, today New Year celebrations have taken new ways. But not all the countries enjoy on the same day of 1st January. 1st January marks the beginning of the year as per the Gregorian Calendar. However, it is true that most of the population of the globe follow Gregorian Calendar.

But there are many calendars followed by various countries. While Jewish people celebrate New Year in the form of Rosh Hashnah, which falls in around the month of September according to the Gregorian Calendar. On the other hand, Iranians begin their New Year with the beginning of the spring season. Whereas, celebrations of New Year in India occur four times a year. They welcome every season with same fervor. Chinese and Japanese too have their own dates on which they eulogize the beginning of New Year. However, along with the regional New Year celebrations, the pagan festival of New Year on 1st January is the source of jubilations almost in every country.

Scottish New Year celebrations are known as Hogmanay. They actually give more emphasis to New Year Eve celebrations, which continue till the next day as well. Talking about New Year celebrations around the world, we can not skip the jollifications of Italy, Portuguese and Netherlands as they still have a touch of history in them. Offering prayers at Church and attending to Church services by the entire family together is customary there.

Like Christmas, the celebrations of New Year take place during holidays in most of the countries around the world. Thus, going to New Year vacations is a newly emerged trend. You can be a part of the historic celebrations of New Year around the world. So, pack your bags and spend your New Year in an altogether different environment with loved ones around. Vacations around the world in New Year are encouraged by various travel agencies available online and otherwise. They offer great packages so that you do not have to worry about the transportation, accommodation and a guide in a stranger country.

Some of the most famous New Year celebrations around the world occur in Costa Rica, Philippines, New York and others. If you want to be a part of more traditional New Year celebrations, then going to places like Rome, France etc is suggested. You can witness exotic New Year celebrations in Brazil and Mexico where colorful celebrations are captivating enough to let you enjoy your New Year vacations to the full. Going to places like Sydney, San Fransisco, Los Angeles, Boston and Hawaii would surely be a unique experience for you and your family.

Health and Diet During Holidays

Sharon Hopkins submitted:

- Holidays are just an excuse to go off track from your fitness program. The mindset of people is that since we follow our fitness regime all week / month / year long, we can indulge in gorging over those cakes and ice creams. Aim to stay on track with your fitness program this and all other holidays. By skipping workouts, eating more, exercising less one tends to gain weight. It’s like going back where we started off from. Make a decision to stay in shape with all the food around you.

- Holidays are a hectic time. All premeditated schedules can go haywire. To stay on track, create a work out time table listing down all the parties, dinners and so on. Keep the time table at such a place where you are forced to look at it every day. This serves as a reminder to stick to your time table religiously.

- If you think you would like to lose 25 lbs during holidays despite enjoying parties, set a goal much before and start working towards it. Goal can also be to gain few pounds also.

- With so much lip smacking, gorgeous food all around, you will feel tempted to just give your fitness program. Keep one day aside where you can treat your self to all your cravings and give in to all your bingeing. Stick to your fitness program rest of the days. And don’t feel even one iota of guilt while satiating your self. Schedule your day to cheat on fitness routine when you have major event lined up.

- If you skip one day of exercise, don’t despair. Get on with it the next day. Nothing goes waste. One day of holiday in your fitness schedule should be a motivating factor for you to get back on your fitness regime.

- If you have planned a big dinner, you might tend to skip either morning or afternoon meal. Avoid changing your eating pattern. Treat the big dinner party at night just like regular dinner time and eat how much you would eat normally.

- Control food portion size in holidays. Eat your favourite foods in moderation. Overindulgence will show around your waistline.

- One always has choices, no matter where you are. Make the best possible choice based on the alternatives available in front of you. If it’s impossible, eat a small portion than a big one.

- Drink 8 – 10 glasses of water daily. Drink few glasses of water before dinner to control your appetite and not kill those hunger pangs. If you just drink and not eat a well balanced meal, you will bloat. Drink water throughout the day to maintain a steady state of hydration.

7 Surefire Strategies to Avoid the Dreaded Holiday Bulge

By Holly Rigsby

The holidays are a time to offer thanks, to spend time with loved ones and a time to EAT – turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, etc. Unfortunately, the holidays are the time of year when many people end up putting on the extra “holiday pounds” which is easy to do for the season continues for just about two months! But the holidays come once a year.

What’s the point of refusing a piece of pecan pie, then feeling miserable? As my most successful strategies are about to reveal…..it’s absolutely OK to enjoy your favorite holiday treats and continue to make progress. Incorporate the following 7 strategies to fight back against the battle of the holiday bulge.

1. Make Exercise A Priority.

The first key to preventing weight gain is to increase your activity level. Besides burning extra holiday calories, exercise reduces stress, elevates your mood and gives you more energy. Sure it may seem difficult to fit in a workout when you are traveling, shopping, baking plus a ton of other holiday-related activities.

That’s why it’s important to first make a commitment to your fitness goals and incorporate short burst exercise into your routine – all you need is 90 minutes a week!

2. Have a Plan.

If you are known for overindulging, you must have a plan in place. Visualize what and how much you will eat before you approach the festive meals and treats. You can also incorporate a backup plan that requires you to be more active for that particular day, or the following day, to keep your metabolism humming so you burn off those extra calories.

3. Don’t Skip Meals.

On the day of the holiday feast, be sure to eat regularly all day long. If you will be eating in the evening, start with a supportive breakfast – particularly something with protein and high fiber carbohydrates. Be sure to eat something light in the afternoon like a quality high protein snack. Protein will help you feel full longer so you’ll be less likely to binge. Once you arrive, go ahead and indulge in some of the delightfully delicious foods. Since you have eaten meals earlier in the day, you will find that you aren’t as tempted to go overboard and eat everything in sight.

Whatever you do, do not starve yourself. Not only will you slow your metabolism down to a hearty fat storing rate, arriving ravenous will guarantee overindulgence.

4. Portion Control is Key.

Allow yourself to enjoy your favorite foods with the ones you love, but do so in moderation. Take time to survey the foods before you make your choices. Try a “serving-spoon” size of the foods you really want to eat and ½ the size of the foods you just want to try out. This way you can enjoy trying many different foods without overeating. Eat off a smaller plate and skip the seconds. Instead, save room for dessert. You don’t need to deprive yourself of the foods you love, otherwise your cravings will grow and you’ll be more likely to overindulge.

5. Wear Form-Fitting Clothes.

Want to really keep yourself honest and the same size during the holiday season? Wear your most form-fitting clothing. Another trick is to tie a string around your waist under your clothing to help keep you mindful of the actions you take during the holiday feast.

6. Limit or Avoid Alcoholic Beverages.

The average alcoholic drink contains 200 calories per glass while an 8-ounce cup of eggnog with rum contains 450 calories. Not only does alcohol pack a lot of empty calories, but over-consumption lowers inhibitions and self-control…..not a good combination when you’re near a buffet of festive foods! If you decide to drink alcohol, stick to light beer or a champagne spritzer or for non-alcoholic alternatives try club soda with lime, tomato juice or diet soda with a lime.

7. Practice the “Cheat Technique.”

If you make supportive food choices 80-90 percent of the time, you have every right to let loose and ”cheat” the other 10-20 percent. This not only allows you something to look forward to so you stay on track, you’ll also enjoy the festivities without carrying them around on your waistline and into the New Year.

“Failing to plan is planning to fail.”

You have the choice to make fitness your priority. Thinking you’ll “get around to it” or that you are “waiting for right time” are simply excuses that take you nowhere. Make a plan, write it down, and stick to it. If you do over-do it, be forgiving of yourself and get back on track the following day.

Have a Fit and Healthy Holiday Season!

Why is travel sex just so darn…GOOD?

Submitted by Bloggeek

Yeah, I said it!  I can’t imagine not one single, sexually active person in (or not in) an exclusive relationship that doesn’t think so.  But, what makes it sooo good?  Is it the element of being in an unfamiliar environment or what I call the naughty factor?  Is it something about entering a clean and inviting hotel room (eh hem, 4-star and above, please) where no socks are on the floor or clothes strewn over the back of the chair?  Could it be the intimacy stirred during the romantic walk along the beach at dusk while viewing the golden amber sunset or the fresh smell of the crisp ocean air.  Or even the promise of an exotic fare of fresh tropical fruit and sumptuous seafood, (eh hem, feed him the mango, ladies).  I don’t know what it is, but now I’m thinking its time for another trip…

Anyway, travel sex is absolutely lovely AND fun in my opinion and you can always take great pleasure in the sweet memory of you and your significant other having a naughty good time in Key West, Florida or Washington DC, or even, for those really dirty, your cousin’s guestroom somewhere in the cold midwest.

So now, I pose to you, what in your opinion makes travel sex just so darned good!  Keep it PG-13 please, lol!

Holiday Travel Tips

Kelly Liyakasa wrote:

If you’re going away for the holidays this year, you’re probably unhappily anticipating a hike in gas prices, long lines at airport security and delays all-around. According to the Bureau of Transportation, Thanksgiving and the winter holiday season are the busiest long-distance travel times in a given year. While travelers cannot avoid hefty waits at check-in and traffic on the highway, there are plenty of measures to take in order to alleviate any holiday season travel stress.

• Know when to travel: For local excursions, people tend to leave on Thursdays. If traveling over 100 miles away, Wednesday through Sunday are the most popular days.

• About 90% of Thanksgiving travel is through one’s vehicle.

• The Sunday and Monday after Thanksgiving are the busiest days to travel back home. If you book a flight or drive on Tuesday, you’ll avoid a lot of traffic.

• Weather delays don’t always depend on where you’re flying out of. If you live in Florida but are flying to New York, you may experience delays due to a snowstorm, for example.

• Allow ample time to check in at the airport and make it through security. More travelers means more time to wait as each individual is screened.

• Travel on Saturday as opposed to Sunday. Most people want to make it back for work without sacrificing any weekend time.

• The average age of Thanksgiving travelers is just under 34, as opposed to right above 36 for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, according to the BTS.

• Preview airport restrictions and laws implemented for safe air travel…you cannot avoid them and will save a world of time if you plan ahead.

• Book a trip off-season. For example, go to New England when the leaves aren’t changing…you’ll save on local bed and breakfasts, whose popularity heightens during the fall.

Consider booking through an online travel agency. You can find new discounts and sales each day, as well as vacation packages unavailable elsewhere.

The best discount travel online can be found through sites such as Orbitz and Expedia, according to StarReviews.com. If you’re an avid planner, you’ll be able to customize your own trip homepage, complete with photos, video and comments through Orbitz’s TripHub.

If you’re like most travelers, saving money is important when going away during the holidays. When booking through Travelocity, you can save just by using a particular credit card. Before the cold weather arrives, consider booking travel online and taking advantages of discount flights and destination-stays.

Travel Insurance : Get Your Trip Insured

Nitin Singh submitted:

You had planned your perfect vacation and taken care of every detail. Now nothing could go wrong. But you somehow managed to loose your luggage at the airport. Now what!! Panic time. You lodge a complaint with the concerned authorities and the first question they ask you is the name of your insurance company. That’s when you tell yourself, “God, I wish I had got my trip insured.” Don’t put yourself in situations which can very much be avoided or taken care of.

Murphy’s Law states ‘things will go wrong in any given situation, if you give them a chance.’ So why leave loopholes, why not take care of things beforehand. The right suggestion is to buy travel insurance.

No doubt, you need to plan a lot of things before you leave for your vacation like where to go, where to stay, things to pack. But regardless of all the planning there are things that are absolutely out of your command and control. This is where travel insurance fits in and it can take care of unexpected out of the blue situations.

But what exactly is travel insurance? It is a security or guarantee that intends to cover financial and other kind of losses that can happen anywhere either in your own country or abroad. In simpler words, travel insurance takes care of you where you anywhere in the world, in any kind of crisis.

Loosing your baggage is not the only problem that can incur when traveling. There are other emergencies too that can pop up. To tackle different situations there are different types of insurances. You can choose the insurance you need depending on the kind of trip and the duration of your stay. Bad weather, sudden illness or death or bankruptcy of airline or cruiser before departure is covered by most of the travel insurance policies. There are also travel health policies that cover medical emergencies. It is advantageous to individuals who suffer from chronic illness and would need medical attention at any point during the trip. This policy takes care of doctor visits, evacuation out of the country and medication.

Imagine being in a foreign land stuck in a crisis and language is a barrier and you are not able to locate the nearest emergency facility. When help does come the medication bills, evacuation bills are so high that instead of the trip being the budget-fit kinds completely crosses the budget graph. The cost of the ‘help’ turns out to be much more than the trip. With no international health insurance you will end up paying an obscene amount for any medical treatment or doctor visits. It turns out to be very expensive and taxing. This is where International Health Insurance steps in. It works as your safety net.

There are also travel insurances for people who are frequent fliers. It is kind of difficult to predict the nature of the problem that might pop up on a trip, so for such trips these policies take care of any loss regarding money or any other kind of emergency. Travel insurances take care of you from the moment you leave home to the time you come back.

Another important thing to bear in mind is to choose the right kind of insurance policy. Don’t go in for cheap travel insurance as they may cover less and you may end up paying more later. At the same time don’t end up buying a policy that is very expensive just because it says a lot. Take a policy that fits in your budget and takes care of all essential requirements.

Remember that vacations are about relaxing, having fun, leaving all tensions behind. To fulfill these requirements travel insurance is a must. After all emergencies come unannounced and your schedule not only goes haywire but so does your budget.
